Russia affirms to continue air strikes against terrorism in Syria
On March 15, RIA news agency quoted Russian Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Pankov as saying that the Russian air force will continue to carry out anti-terrorist airstrikes in Syria.

On the same day, Russian Presidential Chief of Staff Sergei Ivanov said that the country will use advanced air defense systems to protect the remaining Russian troops in Syria after some forces are withdrawn from the country.
“We will maintain a completely reliable protection of the forces remaining (in Syria). To ensure effective security, including from the air, the most modern air defense technology is needed,” Ivanov was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying.
In another development, the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, on the same day assessed Russia's partial withdrawal of troops from Syria as an "important development" and expressed hope that this move could have a positive impact on peace negotiations on Syria.
