On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the signing of the INF Treaty, the Information Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the country will comply with all the conditions of the INF Treaty as long as the United States complies with the Treaty, and Russia is ready to hold a professional dialogue with Washington.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow "does not accept any attempts to talk to Russia in the language of ultimatums, to apply pressure and military and political sanctions against Russia, as is being discussed in Washington."
Earlier, US Assistant Secretary of State Thomas Shannon said in an interview with the media that the US was studying a military solution to establish a medium-range missile system in case Russia violated the INF, but was ready to abandon this activity if Moscow returned to compliance with the treaty.
At the same time, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the US deployment in Poland in 2018 of Aegis Ashore complexes is a serious violation of the INF Treaty.
Thirty years ago, on December 8, 1987, Mikhail Gorbachev and US President Ronald Reagan signed the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty. Recently, both sides have repeatedly accused each other of violating the Treaty.
"I believe that if there is good will, the problems that arise in control can be solved. It is clear that this problem is not only technical, but also primarily political. And now politics needs to have its say," said Mr. Gorbachev.
