On Facebook, the Embassy posted a message stating: "We can only regret the fact that the US State Department has once again engaged in "screaming" diplomacy.
In fact, it turns out that the US State Department supports forces within the US administration that are pushing the agenda of 'Russian interference' in US political processes in their own interests."
Earlier on August 4, US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said US Assistant Secretary of State Wess Mitchell had summoned Mr. Zhirnov.
Earlier this week, Ms. Nauert welcomed Facebook’s recent decision to remove foreign accounts that sowed division and violence in the United States. She also urged Russia and others to stop what she called “attempts to subvert the democratic process and guidelines of the United States.”
