Russia develops new generation air defense system

The ODS President-S defense system is designed to protect aircraft and helicopters from missile and anti-aircraft artillery attacks.

On November 11, the Russian Radio-Electronic Technologies Company (KRET) said it is developing a new generation on-board defense system (ODS) based on the advanced ODS President-S system for the Ilyushin Il-112B military transport aircraft to protect the aircraft from all types of missiles.

The company's press service stated: "KRET, part of the Rostec corporation, is developing a new defense system for the new generation Russian light military transport aircraft Il-112B."

According to KRET, the system is capable of countering any potential missile threats until 2025. The Russian military is expected to begin receiving new-generation Il-112B aircraft in 2019, which can be used to transport cargo near the front line, where there is a risk of missile attack.

The ODS President-S defense system is designed to protect aircraft and helicopters from missile and anti-aircraft artillery attacks. It is currently installed on Ka-52, Mi-28 and Mi-26 helicopters.
