Russia, Syria call on the United Nations to urge the US to withdraw troops from Syria
(Baonghean.vn) - Russia and Syria are calling on the international community and the United Nations to trust and use their power to urge the US to withdraw its troops from Syrian territory as soon as possible, the Russia-Syria Joint Coordination Center for Refugee Repatriation said in a statement on May 29.
“We are calling on the international community, the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to use their power and exert influence on the United States to urge the early withdrawal of the US military from Syria, because this military force is supporting illegal armed groups and preventing Syria from returning to normal life.”

Both countries called on Washington and Brussels to lift sanctions on Syria: “We call on the United States and the European Union to lift sanctions on Syria. Sanctions are not the way to address the urgent humanitarian and socio-economic problems facing Syria.”
Since December 2018, US President Donald Trump declared victory over the Islamic State (IS), and promised to withdraw at least 2,000 troops from this Middle Eastern country as soon as possible.
