Russia destroys last chemical weapons

This is the information reported by Sputnik news agency citing the press office of the Russian Federal Administration for the Safety of Storage and Destruction of Chemical Weapons.
In the announcement, the agency stated: “On September 27, the chemical weapons chemicals out of a total of 40,000 tons stored in the country will be destroyed. Russia will fully implement its obligations under the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons as well as the Convention on the Destruction of Chemical Weapons.”
The announcement also said that the destruction of chemical weapons will be carried out using Russian technologies without harming the environment and people.
In June, the Federal Administration for the Safety of Storage and Destruction of Chemical Weapons announced that Russia had destroyed 98.9% of its chemical weapons stockpile, while the remainder would be destroyed at the Kitzner base in the Udmurt region by the end of this year at the latest.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the entry into force of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). To date, the Convention has been signed by 192 countries./.
