August 20, 1888:Birthday of Comrade Ton Duc Thang - a famous activist of the Party and State of Vietnam, an outstanding soldier of the international workers' movement, a representative of the great solidarity policy of the Party and President Ho. After President Ho Chi Minh passed away, he was elected by the National Assembly as President from the end of 1969 until his death on March 30, 1980 in Hanoi, at the age of 92.
August 20, 1896:Date of birth of writer, teacher, and literary researcher Hoang Ngoc Phach, pen name Song An. He grew up in a family of patriotic Confucian scholars, his father was a Can Vuong scholar. From 1926 to 1945, he taught in many places. During this time, Hoang Ngoc Phach was the Head of the National Language Dissemination Committee in Bac Ninh and participated in the Viet Minh there. After the Revolution, from 1947 to 1948, he was the Director of Education in Zone XI. From 1951 to 1954, he was the Director of the Central Pedagogical College. From 1959, he returned to the Institute of Literature to collect, edit, and research modern Vietnamese literary works.
