(Baonghean.vn) - Last night (September 26), many localities in the province had heavy rain, causing flooding, making travel difficult and potentially dangerous. To ensure the safety of teachers and students, many localities have given students a day off this morning, September 27.

Talking to Nghe An Newspaper, Mr. Lu Thanh Ha - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Que Phong district said: In the district, in recent days there have beenheavy rain, even some places have very heavy rain. The rain is forecast to last for many days, so since yesterday afternoon (September 26), the department has sent a document to schools and allowed principals to proactively let students stay home if weather conditions are not guaranteed.

On the morning of September 27, through initial understanding, schools in Quang Phong, Cam Muon, Chau Kim, Nam Giai, and Hanh Dich communes have allowed all students to stay home. In the remaining localities, school closures may take place locally if the school is isolated and inaccessible.

In Quy Chau district, all schools have closed and flooding has occurred in many areas across the district, including the town area.

Through discussion, Ms. Nguyen Thi Chau - Head of the District Education and Training Department said: Due to heavy rain combined with the hydroelectric dam releasing floodwaters from about 2am yesterday until now, many localities in the district have been flooded, especially the communes along the river. Through initial understanding, currently two kindergarten and primary schools in Ta Soi village (Chau Hanh commune) have water rising to the roof, many schools in Chau Thang commune have also had water about 1 meter into the school.

The head of the Department of Education and Training of Quy Chau district also said that in schools along the river, for many years now, the work of preventing storms and floods has been focused on by schools. Before the heavy rain and the release of floodwaters from hydroelectric dams, the Department of Education had directed schools to move teaching equipment to higher ground. However, with the water rising rapidly and flooding the roofs, many schools have certainly lost all their property.

According to the Department of Education and Training, as of 7am this morning, many localities in the province have allowed students to stay home from school. Districts with a large number of schools closed include Que Phong, Quy Chau, Quy Hop, and Tan Ky. The main reason is heavy rain and hydroelectric dams releasing floodwaters. In the remaining districts such as Anh Son, Con Cuong, and Ky Son, school closures are localized in isolated areas.

To ensure the safety of students, teachers and schools, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan - Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training added: The Department of Education and Training has issued a document directing schools very early on to proactively prevent the rainy and flood season. In particular, it requires, depending on the actual situation, to proactively let students take time off from school and notify early to avoid students still going to school.

Besides, it is necessary to coordinate with local authorities and families to manage students staying home from school to avoid unfortunate incidents.

During the rainy season, the Department of Education and Training also requires schools to proactively move computer rooms on the first floor to the upper floors or to higher places to ensure safety, and review school facilities to avoid walls collapsing in case of prolonged rain.

Schools also need to assign people to be on duty to guard against sudden water surges, especially in areas along the Lam River or where hydroelectric plants release water. Before and after floods, regularly coordinate with health agencies to do a good job of sanitation and disease prevention, especially when pink eye is currently breaking out strongly in schools./.
