Information from Nghe An Department of Health: During the 8 days of Tet (from December 28 to the 5th day of Lunar New Year, i.e. February 2 to February 10, 2019), the whole province had 45 people poisoned by beer and alcohol and had to be hospitalized for treatment.
Of the 73 people hospitalized due to fights, 5 were related to alcohol use. Compared to the same period of the Lunar New Year 2018, the number of people hospitalized for alcohol poisoning and the number of people fighting due to alcohol both doubled.
Information from Nghe An General Hospital: The number of alcohol and beer poisoning cases admitted for treatment during the Lunar New Year increased compared to the same period last year. On the first day of the Lunar New Year alone, 20 cases were admitted for treatment in various departments. Notably, during the Lunar New Year, 1 patient died due to alcohol.
Master, Doctor Tran Thi Hong Thanh - Deputy Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology said: Many cases of alcohol poisoning are very severe, causing impaired function of organs in the body such as the liver, kidneys, and stomach; many cases affect the brain, causing hallucinations, excitement, screaming, vandalism, or lethargy. During Tet, the Department received 70 patients, half of whom were suffering from alcohol-related illnesses, including one woman who was in a coma from alcohol poisoning... At this time, the Department is treating many cases of alcohol poisoning.
This Tet holiday, the whole country had 817 cases of alcohol poisoning that required hospitalization.... Reality shows that: This number of patients does not fully reflect the situation of alcohol poisoning that has been and is happening because there are many people who are poisoned but do not go to the hospital for treatment; some others are taken directly to the mental hospital by their families due to long-term alcohol addiction and alcohol-induced psychosis./.
