Nghe An: Rice blast disease damages 200 hectares of rice in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, the weather has been complicated, with rain, cloudy sky, fog, high humidity, causing rice blast disease to arise, develop and damage over 200 hectares in many districts such as Dien Chau, Yen Thanh, Hung Nguyen... The disease rate in some places is 10-15%, in some cases 50-70% of leaves are damaged.
In Dien Chau, on the early rice planting area in the communes of Dien Nguyen, Dien Lien, Dien Thang, Dien Lam, Dien Cat, Dien Thai, Dien Minh..., the blast disease has occurred and damaged more than 2.1 hectares with an average disease rate of 2 - 3%, in some places 5 - 10% of the leaf area damaged. Concentrated mainly on susceptible varieties such as AC5, TBR25, BC15, Thien Uu 8, Nhi Uu 986, ADI 30.

Mr. Le The Hieu - Head of Dien Chau Department of Agriculture and Rural Development shared: "Blaze disease is emerging, developing and spreading rapidly. If timely preventive measures are not taken, it will greatly affect rice productivity". Departments of Dien Chau district have also directly inspected, notified and directed communes to proactively respond to disease developments.
In Yen Thanh, rice blast disease has also occurred on more than 1.7 hectares, concentrated in Van Thanh and Hop Thanh communes..., with a high infection rate of 10-15%, mainly on NA6 and AC5 varieties. In addition, some other places such as Hung Chau, Hung Nhan and Hung Phuc communes of Hung Nguyen; Thach Son commune of Anh Son district, have also recorded the appearance of rice blast disease.
According to the forecast of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection of Nghe An, in the coming time, the weather will continue to be complicated, favorable for the rice blast disease to arise, develop and cause damage and spread widely. Especially on sandy soil, light soil, semi-mountainous areas, on annual varieties that are often seriously affected by the disease such as IR1802, BC15, Thien Uu 8, Nep 352, Xi23, B6, BTE1, AC5..., on fields with unbalanced fertilization and excess nitrogen.

Currently, Nghe An Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection has directed the officers in charge of the area to closely monitor the fields, investigate and detect the outbreak of rice blast disease in the fields. Advise the People's Committees at all levels on timely and specific technical measures for prevention and control, and coordinate with relevant departments and branches in the area to organize propaganda and guide farmers on prevention and control.
