According to the pre-feasibility study plan, the North-South high-speed railway has a total length of 1,545km, including 23 stations, passing through 20 provinces and cities. The section through Nghe An is nearly 86.5km long, passing through Hoang Mai town, Quynh Luu, Dien Chau, Nghi Loc, Vinh city and Hung Nguyen district.

The construction of this high-speed railway line, in addition to connecting the two economic, political and social centers at the two ends of the country, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, is also expected to contribute to solving the problem of overloading many types of passenger transport on both roads and air as at present.

Regarding the section passing through Nghe An province, the Railway Project Management Board plans that after passing through Thanh Hoa province, the railway route will go straight to the South, intersecting with the current railway line and National Highway 1A at the beginning of Hoang Mai town, then running parallel to the east of National Highway 1A (about 0.5 to 1.2 km from National Highway 1A).

The railway then continues to curve down to the East to avoid Cau Giat town, when near the end of Quynh Luu area, it will turn right, cross National Highway 1A and the old railway, cross National Highway 7 and then head straight to the South...

The route continues to turn right at Quan Hanh town, before going straight to Vinh Station. From Vinh Station, the route will run south along the old railway line, then cross National Highway 46, the current railway line, National Highway 1A, and cross the Lam River through Ha Tinh province.

In addition, the Railway Project Management Board also proposed to build a new station near the center of Vinh City, with an area of about 6 hectares.

However, at the meeting, most leaders of the localities where this railway line passes through did not agree with the route proposed by the Railway Project Management Board.

"If we follow this plan, it will disrupt and upset the entire planning of Vinh City," said Mr. Le Sy Chien - Vice Chairman of Vinh City People's Committee.

Emphasizing that the construction of a high-speed railway is necessary and an important project, comrade Huynh Thanh Dien said that this is an inevitable need to meet the increasing transportation demand; in line with the strategic orientation and planning of the Transport sector....

However, like the opinions of localities in the province, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee did not agree with the route direction and location of Vinh Station in the plan proposed by the Railway Project Management Board.

Pointing out unreasonable points in the route plan presented by the Railway Project Management Board at the working session, comrade Huynh Thanh Dien requested that the high-speed railway route must basically be based on the planned location and agreed upon with the Ministry of Transport in advance to avoid disruption of the built infrastructure, as well as impact on the approved general planning of the whole province./.
