(Baonghean.vn) - The prolonged flooding at the end of September caused severe damage to many localities in Nghe An province. The province is currently directing functional forces and local authorities to overcome the consequences and soon ensure people's lives.

The Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense has just issued a quick report on flood damage in Nghe An as of October 2.

Accordingly, in terms of human losses, the floods have killed one person, Mr. LVK, born in 1952, residing in Hoa Tien 1 village, Chau Tien commune, Quy Chau district. One missing person who has not been found yet is NQC, born in 2008, in Cong village, Chau Hong commune, Quy Hop district. His electric bike has been found. The number of people who had to evacuate was 142 in Ky Son district, and the households have now returned to stabilize their lives.

Regarding housing, the whole province had 2,337 flooded houses, of which Quy Chau district accounted for more than 50%, with 1,214 houses, the rest were in Que Phong, Nghia Dan, Anh Son, Quy Hop, Tan Ky districts... There were 16 houses completely collapsed (2 Ky Son houses, 6 Tuong Duong houses, 1 Quy Chau house, 7 Que Phong houses).

Regarding agricultural production, the whole province had 2,904 hectares of rice and 3,989 hectares of crops, fruit trees, and industrial trees flooded and broken. 263 cattle and 26,882 poultry died or were swept away. Regarding aquaculture, 1,848 hectares of ponds were overflowed and damaged, many fish cages were swept away, causing heavy losses in the third crop of fish.

In the education sector, the whole province had 40 flooded schools, 3 classrooms had their roofs blown off or damaged, and 179 meters of fence collapsed.

Regarding the irrigation system, 8,094 canals, 11 lakes and dams were eroded and damaged, many pumping stations were filled up, 40 culverts were washed away, and more than 8 km of riverbank was eroded...

Traffic in the localities was also severely damaged, with 9,930m of road eroded, 70 bridges flooded, and 144 landslides on traffic routes. Many medium and low voltage power poles and transformer stations were damaged...

Currently, Nghe An province is directing localities and functional forces to quickly overcome the damage caused by floods. In particular, focusing on tasks such as: Checking, reviewing, and preparing plans to ensure the safety of the dyke system, lakes, and dams, especially works under construction or damaged or degraded. Proactively developing plans to safely operate lakes and dams, especially vulnerable lakes and dams, lakes and dams that are full of water. Arranging forces, materials, and means to promptly deploy rescue, search and rescue and overcome incidents of dykes, lakes, dams, landslides, etc.

Continue to immediately inspect and review residential areas, agency headquarters, workplaces, and unit garrisons, resolutely evacuate people, vehicles, and assets from dangerous areas, especially areas at risk of landslides, flash floods, and inundation to ensure the safety of people's lives and property and the State.

People's Committees at all levels and organizations promptly organize visits and encouragement for families that suffered heavy losses and policy families during the flood; People's Committees at district and commune levels allocate reserve funds to support according to regulations; after the flood, guide people to help each other overcome damage to houses, property, environmental sanitation, disinfection, sterilization, and treatment to ensure domestic water in flooded areas; restore production of flooded rice, corn, and vegetables; repair damaged infrastructure, and restore clean water works to serve people's daily life.
