Nghe An: The pure beauty of multi-colored butterflies in Pu Mat

(Baonghean.vn) - Coming to the Western region of Nghe An this season, we can witness swarms of bees collecting honey and yellow butterflies flying all over the sky. Every year around March and April, the muong caterpillars transform into yellow butterflies, also known as muong caterpillar butterflies. In large numbers, they fly all over the sky around the villages and roadsides of Pu Mat.

Pu Mat has a total of 459 butterfly species including: 365 species of butterflies, 94 species of moths (83 species of horn butterflies and 11 species of emperor butterflies). Of which, 7 species of butterflies and 4 species of moths (horn butterflies) are new species in Vietnam. In addition, there are 3 species of butterflies listed in the Vietnam Red Book (RBD 2007) ranked at VU (Vulnerable).

The reason they are called moth caterpillars is because they only lay eggs on the black cassia tree. After hatching and eating the eggshells and leaves, the caterpillars will shed their hair and create cocoons in the following days. At the right time, the fragile moths will fly away, leaving behind the dry cocoon.

The fragile beauty of the moth has created an interesting feature for those who love to explore Western Nghe An.

The moth is light blue in color and can easily blend in with other plants and grasses. Could this be a special defense mechanism of this strange butterfly?

Despite the terrain, the beauty of the moth still captivates nature lovers.

When gathered together, the moths are as quiet and pure as flower petals.The phenomenon of moths flying over the sky only occurs once a year and about two months before the official rainy season begins. Lucky visitors to Pu Mat will encounter moths.
