(Baonghean.vn) - Dien Chau District Police (Nghe An) said they are temporarily detaining Chu Van Son (35 years old, residing in Dien Bich Commune, Dien Chau District, Nghe An) - the suspect who held a knife to the neck and controlled the hostage for many hours.

Son is known to be married and has two young children. In 2011, Son participated in a theft in the area. When he learned that the police were investigating, he fled Vung Tau. On May 25, 2012, the Task Force of the Wanted Police Department (PC52), Nghe An Provincial Police, arrested Son on a fishing boat in the eastern waters of Vung Tau.

The subject restrained Mr. Quang, held a knife to his neck and declared that he would kill the victim if anyone came near.

After returning home from prison, Son had no stable job and showed signs of drug addiction, suspected of being infected with HIV. Initially, the police determined that Son was "high on drugs" which was why he acted so recklessly and without control.

According to witnesses, at around 7am on April 17, Son was high on drugs, driving on the road and causing a minor accident with a car. Afterwards, he restrained a young man, but released him a few minutes later.

Son then continued to restrain a girl over 1 year old and injured her neck. After being stopped by everyone, the subject released the girl and then continued to restrain Nguyen Van Quang (34 years old, resident of Dien Bich commune). Son asked Quang to take Son around the commune on his motorbike and declared that he would kill the victim if anyone came near.

At this time, Dien Bich Commune Police reported to Dien Chau District Police. Dien Chau District Police and Border Guard mobilized forces to block roads to rescue Mr. Quang.

After many hours of ambush, the suspect was arrested by the authorities. Police suspected Son was high on drugs.

However, all approaches to Son failed because he was very aggressive at this time. At 2:00 p.m. the same day, the subject still held the victim, knife in hand, and drove his motorbike all over Dien Chau.

At around 2 p.m., on the way home, Son led Mr. Quang into an alley and was knocked down and captured by the detectives. Due to being restrained for a long time, Mr. Quang suffered many injuries on his body and was taken to the hospital by his relatives for emergency treatment. Son was injured in the hand, having stabbed himself with scissors.

According to Mr. Quang's family, after receiving first aid at Dien Bich commune health station, Mr. Quang was transferred to Dien Chau district general hospital for further treatment because of concerns that the suspect was infected with HIV.

Dien Chau District Police leaders said they are continuing to take statements from suspect Son to expand the investigation of the case.
