Nghe An: Cassava price highest in 5 years, over 2 million VND/ton

Mr. Lu Van Thanh's family in Yen Hoa village, Hoa Son commune (Anh Son) is one of the households in the village with high income from trees.CassavaWith the current area of 1 hectare, Mr. Thanh's family harvested over 30 tons of cassava tubers. Currently, the purchase price at the factory is up to more than 2.2 million VND/ton, which has brought his family over 60 million VND.
This cassava crop, Ms. Ha Thi Thuy's family in Vinh Kim village, Hoa Son commune planted 1.2 hectares of high-yield cassava. Ms. Thuy shared: "Every year in November, the family begins to harvest cassava, on average 1 sao of cassava of her family achieves a yield of 1.5 tons, up to this point, her family has harvested nearly 10 tons of cassava on an area of more than 6 sao. With the current selling price to the factory of 2,250 VND/kg, Ms. Thuy has earned a profit of 13.5 million VND. If the entire area is harvested, the family will earn over 70 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Tho - Chairman of Hoa Son Commune People's Committee said: In recent years, the commune has boldly converted the area of planting crops that bring higher economic efficiency, in which cassava plays a key role. Currently, the whole commune has more than 130 hectares of cassava, if planted and cared for properly, many households can achieve a yield of about 44 tons/ha.
This year, the company purchased cassava for farmers at over 2.2 million VND/ton. With such a price, farmers can earn 3-4 million VND per sao of cassava. All productsharvestAll cassava is purchased by the company and transported to the factory, there is no unsold cassava or price pressure.
In the whole Anh Son district, the 2020 cassava crop has 1,107 hectares, with nearly 100% of the area being high-yield varieties. Currently, cassava is grown in many communes such as Thanh Son, Binh Son, Tho Son, Hoa Son, Tuong Son, Cam Son... Every year, from October of the previous year to the end of January of the following year is when people start harvesting. This year, the average yield is estimated at 20.1 quintals/ha; estimated cassava output is 22,594 tons, reaching 132% of the yearly plan, up 14% over the same period.

Thanh Chuong District is one of the localities with the largest cassava area in the province, with nearly 2,200 hectares. Mr. Tran Phi Hung - Head of the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that farmers in the district have been harvesting cassava for a month now, more excited than in previous years, because the price of cassava purchased by the factory is higher. Through the survey, it shows that the price of cassava is sold by farmers at over 2 million VND/ton, the highest in many years.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Trung - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tan Ky district said that the price of raw cassava in the area is currently from 1.9 to 2 million VND/ton. This price is high, because previously the price of cassava only fluctuated from 1.3 to 1.5 million VND/ton. This year, Tan Ky district has more than 1,000 hectares of high-yield cassava.
According to cassava growers, cassava prices in Anh Son district began to increase right from the beginning of the harvest season, this is the highest price in the past 5 years. With this price, cassava growers estimate that after deducting all costs, their profit will reach 50 - 60 million VND/ha.
