Nghe An: Thousands of hectares of summer-autumn rice flooded due to heavy rain
(Baonghean.vn) - Heavy rain caused thousands of hectares of summer-autumn rice in localities in Nghe An to be deeply submerged in water.
This summer-autumn crop, Long Thanh commune planted over 350 hectares of summer-autumn rice. Up to this point, the commune has been flooded with over 150 hectares of rice. If it continues to rain, the area of over 350 hectares will be completely flooded.
Mr. Nguyen Van Duong - Head of Yen Thanh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: This summer-autumn crop, the district planted more than 12,000 hectares of rice. Due to continuous heavy rains in recent days, more than 1,500 hectares were flooded, mainly in the communes of Long Thanh, Bao Thanh, Vinh Thanh, Nhan Thanh and Yen Thanh town.

To “save” the rice, Yen Thanh district is actively directing localities to clear the flow of water in the main drainage axes, such as opening the spillway on Dinh River to drain floodwaters for Tang Thanh, Xuan Thanh, and towns; Concentrating strong platoon forces in communes to clear and push water hyacinth in Bien Hoa and Bau Chen drainage canals, etc.

Also according to Mr. Nguyen Van Duong: If there is little rain and we actively collect water hyacinth and release the overflow drains in time, we can save the flooded rice.
In Do Luong, in the past few days, the district has been experiencing continuous rain. On July 16, the rainfall was 152mm; from the morning of July 17 until 11am, the rainfall was 150mm.

Faced with prolonged rain, leaders of the People's Committee of Do Luong district, along with representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Economic Infrastructure, went directly to the communes to inspect and direct measures to minimize damage caused by flooding.
In the communes, district leaders inspected crops on the land along the Lam River, promptly urged households to regularly monitor water levels and dredge to avoid flooding for crops.

Through inspection, it was found that in the fields, the entire Do Luong district had nearly 500 hectares of summer-autumn rice fields flooded. Communes with the most flooded areas were Tru Son, Dai Son, Hien Son, Quang Son, My Son, Hong Son; Tru Son commune alone had 70 hectares of flooded rice fields.
Comrade Nguyen Trung Thanh - Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee has directed the communes to regularly inspect, monitor and clear the drainage canal system. As soon as the rain stops, promptly direct people to repair the crop area damaged by flooding.

Due to the influence of the tropical convergence zone with an axis through the southern part of the Northern Delta and the North Central region connecting with the center of the tropical depression in Nghe An province, there was heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms. The total rainfall from July 13 to 07:00 on July 17 was generally 200 - 400 mm, specifically in some places as follows: Quy Chau 196.0 mm; Do Luong 208.0 mm; Nam Dan 265.0 mm; Vinh City 353.0 mm; Quynh Luu 278.0 mm; Cua Hoi 408.0 mm; Trang market (Hung Nguyen) 465.0 mm, which greatly affected agricultural production and people's lives.
In Nam Dan, heavy rain also flooded 1,700 hectares of rice out of a total of more than 5,000 hectares of rice in the district. Most communes were flooded, most of which were in Nam Phuc, Kim Lien, Nam Giang...
According to the initial preliminary report of the People's Committees of districts, cities and towns, as of 4:45 p.m. on July 17, 2018, the total area of flooded crops was: 9,046.0 hectares. Of which: 7,727.5 hectares of rice were flooded; 1,318.5 hectares of rice were flooded;Ha of corn, peanuts, and vegetables of all kinds were flooded and crushed; 351.3 ha of aquatic products were flooded and overflowed.

(Baonghean.vn) - Forecast in the next 6 hours, with common rainfall from: 30 - 50mm, maximum 70 - 120mm, 4 localities of Nghe An are at risk of flooding.

Warning: Nghe An at high risk of landslides and flooding
(Baonghean.vn) - It is forecasted that in the next 3-6 hours, Nghe An province will continue to have rain, with rainfall reaching 20-40mm. Warning of high risk of landslides and flooding in low-lying areas in Nghe An province, especially in Yen Thanh, Do Luong and Thanh Chuong districts.
