(Baonghean.vn)- Heavy rains up to 390mm in some places have caused many areas in Nghe An to be flooded, many roads were cut off, and an 8th grade student was swept away by water on his way to school.

The Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Nghe An province said that the person swept away by the flood was Pham Ngoc Hoang, born in 2003, grade 8B, Nam Kim Secondary School, residing in Tam Giac hamlet, Nam Kim commune, Nam Dan district. On the morning of October 15, he was swept away by the flood on his way to school.

Continuous heavy rains in Nghe An over the past two days have caused many roads and bridges to be flooded. In particular, some roads were deeply flooded, causing traffic jams, such as the Km39+400 spillway (Quynh Thang commune, Quynh Luu district) flooded 0.35m; the Km234+900 - Km234+970 section (Nghi Thach commune, Nghi Loc district), 70m long, flooded 0.2m; Provincial Road 542E through Hung Tay commune, Hung Nguyen district flooded 1m; National Highway 15 section Km272 - Km272+050 (through Lat town, Tan Ky district), 50m long, flooded 0.2m deep; the Ru Nguoc section of National Highway 46 was near a landslide.

In Vinh City, heavy rains caused dozens of roads and many residential areas to be deeply flooded.

Under the influence of the strengthening continental cold high pressure tongue; combined with the northern edge of the Low Pressure Trough with an axis through the Central region connecting to the center of the Low Pressure area on land, the weather in Nghe An province from October 13 to 15, 2016 had heavy to very heavy rain, concentrated in the downstream of the Ca River basin. The rainfall from October 13 to 7:00 a.m. on October 15 at some stations was as follows: Vinh 336.0 mm; Cho Trang 390.0 mm; Nam Dan 290.0 mm; Do Luong 192.0 mm; Con Cuong 96.3 mm; Thach Giam (Tuong Duong) 43.0 mm; Que Phong 69.0 mm, Quynh Luu 62.8 mm.

Irrigation companies and localities actively operate pumping stations, drainage sluices and drainage canal systems to drain water and protect rice and crops; the Department of Transport arranges guards to guide people and vehicles passing through culverts, spillways, ferry piers and ferry piers; strictly prohibits people from collecting firewood on rivers and streams to ensure safety for people and property...
