Nghe An: Industry and services begin to recover after Covid-19 pandemic

(Baonghean.vn) - In the first 6 months of 2020, despite being heavily affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, Nghe An's industrial production index still grew quite well, and trade and service activities gradually recovered.

In the first 6 months of 2020, industrial production in the province faced many difficulties, especially key industries such as: Hydropower industry lacked water to run electricity generating machines; beer production industry's consumption output decreased due to the implementation of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP on administrative sanctions for violations in the field of road and railway traffic.

In particular, the Covid-19 acute respiratory infection epidemic has comprehensively and deeply affected all countries in the world, and is currently still very complicated, the global economy is falling into a serious recession. Vietnam in general and Nghe An province in particular are no exception.

However, the industrial production index in June 2020 of Nghe An province is estimated to increase by 9.12% compared to May 2020 and increase by 15.19% over the same period in 2019.

In the first 6 months of the year, the industrial production index is estimated to increase by 1.08% over the same period last year; of which, the mining industry increased by 2.58%, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 3.89%. In the first 6 months of the year, 3 more hydropower projects (Dong Van, Ca Loi, Ca Nan 1) with a total capacity of 37.4 MW were generated.

After the break, businesses have returned to production, the industry has shown good signs of recovery, although still slow, some products have increased such as: Non-woven clothing is estimated at 20.9 million pieces, up 24.13%; Yogurt is estimated at 21.9 thousand tons, up 20.89%; Cement is estimated at 3.3 million tons, up 13.32%; Hoa Sen steel pipes are estimated at 12.8 thousand tons, up 4.73%; Clinker is estimated at 3.4 million tons, up 4.53%; Animal feed is estimated at 66.3 thousand tons, up 3.05%; Fresh milk is estimated at 114.5 million liters, up 3.86%...

In the first 6 months of the year, trade and service activities in the province were also affected by the epidemic. After implementing social distancing, industries returned to normal operations, so the wholesale, retail, accommodation and food services, education and training and other service industries tended to increase compared to previous months.

However, in the complicated situation of the epidemic, the fear of the return of Covid-19 has caused some industries and professions such as travel services and entertainment services to temporarily stop operating or operate at a low level.

Total retail sales of goods in the first 6 months were estimated at nearly VND31 trillion, up 0.21%, of which food and foodstuffs increased by 11.09% over the same period. Service revenue was estimated at more than VND8,381 billion, of which accommodation and food service revenue was VND3,023 billion, equal to 71.2% of the same period in 2019./.
