(Baonghean.vn) - The demand for recruiting students in the Pedagogy field has been increasing in recent years, especially in specific majors. In that context, Pedagogy training also requires being close to reality, meeting professional and task requirements.

Local surplus - shortage

Yen Thanh District is planning to recruit 292 staff according to the quota just assigned by the Provincial People's Committee to supplement in 2022. Of these, the district is planning to prioritize recruiting all preschool teachers subject to Decree 06 and Circular 09; 42 primary school teachers, priority will be given torecruitmentThe number of teachers on contract at the secondary level has decreased, mainly in specific subjects. Although there are 12 targets for secondary school teachers, it is difficult to recruit them in reality, because currently the district still has more than 100 surplus teachers.

Through discussion, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan - Head of the Internal Affairs Department of Yen Thanh district said: Although there are nearly 300 quotas, it is difficult for us to recruit new teachers, because currently, the district's teaching staff is still in surplus - shortage locally. If there are still quotas, we will be able to receive teachers from Yen Thanh district who are working in other districts to both solve the teachers' wishes and make recruitment easier.

The situation of “surplus - shortage” of local teachers has been happening in Nghe An province for many years now, in which there is a “surplus” in subjects such as Literature and Mathematics, but a shortage in subjects such as English, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Fine Arts, Music. That is also the reason why, although recently, there are thousands of teacher recruitment quotas, many localities still do not have registration records, especially in mountainous districts such as Tuong Duong, Ky Son, Que Phong… for subjects such as English and Computer Science.

Or in the plain districts, the demand for recruiting primary school teachers with university degrees is very high, but even in districts such as Quynh Luu, Dien Chau... the number of applications is often less than the local quota. After more than 2 years of implementing the new General Education Program, shortcomings in the teaching staff at all levels have also arisen, especially in the Natural Science subject at the secondary school level, because currently there are no students graduating from Natural Science but only part-time teachers, not in the right training major.

The “thirst” for human resources in the Pedagogy sector is a good sign after many years of the Pedagogy sector being “stagnant” due to thousands of graduates being unemployed. However, it also shows that the training of pedagogical students is having shortcomings, especially in the forecasting work, leading to difficulties in recruitment as it is today.

In addition to the requirement of "sufficient" quantity, the quality of teachers to meet the requirements of the task, especially to meet the need to change textbooks according to the new General Education Program, is also an issue that needs attention. Accordingly,New General Education ProgramShift from an education that emphasizes qualities and abilities to an education that comprehensively develops both qualities and abilities, harmonizes morality, intelligence, physique, and aesthetics, and best develops the potential of each student.

To achieve the above goal, the new General Education Program is innovated in the direction of streamlining, modernizing, being practical, suitable for age, level and career orientation; increasing practice, applying knowledge into practice, integrating in lower grades and gradually differentiating in upper grades.

This program requires teachers and managers to be proactive, flexible, and creative in applying national and local programs to suit the characteristics of students and the conditions and identity of each school, in order to meet the requirements for developing the qualities and abilities of learners...

The current problem in Nghe An as well as many other provinces and cities is that the number of teachers with high qualifications and professional capacity is still small compared to the requirements of the task of renewing the 2018 General Education Program. The teacher structure is not reasonable, there is a local surplus - shortage in some subjects at the secondary school level.

In addition, some teachers are still limited in using teaching methods that promote students' positive behavior. Most teachers of English, Physical Education, Information Technology, Music, and Fine Arts are often not trained to teach at each level and lack knowledge of age psychology.

Training must be close to real needs.

Training and fostering primary school teachers to meet the requirements of general education reform in the current context is the content of the National Scientific Conference recently organized by Vinh University with the participation of more than 80 experts, scientists from research institutes, universities, colleges, managers from the Ministry, Department of Education and Training and many schools.

At the workshop, delegates also agreed with the viewpoint that in the current trend of general education innovation in Vietnam, teacher training institutions need to adjust, update, and develop their training programs to meet the needs of educational innovation. To do so, one of the important steps in building a training program is to determine the output standards of the training program so that they are appropriate, ensuring measurement and assessment of learners' capacity to meet the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program.

In the requirements of innovation, teachers must promote their proactive and creative roles, arouse and develop their own potential and capacity. To do that, teacher training must meet the ever-changing requirements of society, be suitable for the recruiting unit, and pay attention to output standards. In particular, it is important that teachers must have a firm grasp of knowledge and teaching skills, teachers must know how to creatively apply knowledge, and solve pedagogical situations.

Mr. Thai Van Thanh - Director of Nghe An Department of Education and Training

The Director of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training also pointed out the shortcomings in the current teaching staff and said that the main reason is that the planning, training and fostering of staff in some localities is not reasonable; the training of teachers in the direction of competency approach has not been implemented systematically. From there, solutions are proposed to train teachers to meet the requirements of educational innovation, which is to improve the quality of pedagogical input, develop teacher training programs in the direction of competency development, and improve the capacity of pedagogical lecturers. Another important thing is to strengthen the coordination of teacher training institutions with schools and localities, avoiding the situation of training not meeting the needs. At present, teacher training needs to focus on subjects that are lacking in many subjects such as Physical Education, English, Information Technology, Technology...; pay attention to new subjects.

Grasping the practical requirements, Vinh University and many other universities are also making changes in training to not only meet the innovation requirements of the education sector but also meet recruitment needs.

Currently, the school is training according to CDIO standards to meet output standards. Thereby, it will answer the questions "What to train" and "How to train". This is a new training program, built in the direction of developing learners' qualities and abilities through a system of output standards that are scientifically, logically built and can be measured and evaluated.

Through the first graduating class, it shows that the students' capacity has made remarkable progress and the improvement of the primary school teacher training program according to the CDIO approach is a right step to improve the quality of primary school teacher training, meeting the demand for high-quality human resources in the professional environment.

Dr. Chu Thi Ha Thanh - Deputy Head of Primary Education Department, School of Education, Vinh University

At other levels of education such as junior high school and high school, changing training methods and training programs is also an inevitable trend in the current period and it is also a measure to evaluate the capacity of schools.

Through the discussion, Mr. Luu Tien Hung - Principal of the School of Education, Vinh University also said: In addition to traditional majors, we are considering and researching to open more major codes in new subjects such as Social Science Pedagogy, History - Geography Pedagogy. At the same time, it is possible to build new major codes so that teachers can study for a second degree, strengthen training to improve the capacity of the school's teaching staff and students, meeting the teaching requirements in the new situation.
