(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, many aquaculture areas: clams, oysters of fishermen in Hoang Mai (Nghe An) are dying, causing hundreds of millions of dong in damage. Local authorities are coordinating with relevant agencies to quickly find the cause, helping people stabilize production.

On November 24, according to the reflection of the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc (55 years old, residing in Quynh Thien ward, Hoang Mai town), the family's 2.5 hectares of clams died for unknown reasons.

Mr. Duoc said that his family's clam farm is located in the alluvial area bordering Quynh Lap Fishing Port with an area of ​​2.5 hectares. All the clams that were ready to be harvested suddenly died, with a mortality rate of over 80%. Since July 2017, his family has released 4.5 tons of white clams (investing 200 million VND in seeds) on an area of ​​2.5 hectares. This December is the harvest time, with an estimated output of nearly 50 tons of commercial clams. If calculated at the selling price of 14 thousand VND/kg, his family has suffered a loss of nearly 700 million VND.

In addition to clams, Mr. Duoc also invested in two oyster rafts with a yield of over 5 tons... Currently, oysters are about to be harvested, but they are also dying en masse, causing his family to lose hundreds of millions of dong.

Sharing the same situation as Mr. Duoc's family, Mr. Truong Quang Hung - an oyster farmer in Quyet Tien hamlet, Quynh Lap commune, said that he raised 2 oyster cages that were about to be harvested but suddenly died in recent days, causing his family to lose over 150 million VND.

It is known that in Quynh Lap commune, there are dozens of households raising clams and oysters that died at harvest time for unknown reasons. Mr. Le Ba Van - Chairman of Quynh Lap commune People's Committee said that after receiving reports from families, the commune People's Committee reported the situation to Hoang Mai town People's Committee to clarify the cause and find a solution.

Discussing this issue, Mr. Hoang Ngoc Thuy - Head of the Economic Department of Hoang Mai Town confirmed that 4 days ago, 80% of 10 hectares of clams in the tidal flat area of ​​Quynh Lap and Quynh Phuong communes died; in addition, a number of fish cages of fishermen also died en masse, causing a loss of about 10 tons of fish. "After the phenomenon of aquaculture areas dying, we coordinated with veterinary agencies to check the specimens but found no disease in the animals. We are investigating the cause of the above situation to help people stabilize production," said Mr. Thuy.
