We went to Thanh's house in hamlet 3 (father of Trung and Huong) who drowned in Dien Quang commune, Dien Chau district. As soon as we reached the village entrance, the mournful sound of drums and trumpets from the two families who had just lost their children made the place gloomy and sad. A line of people began to stretch out on the way from their homes to the cemetery to send off the three children Tran Quang Trung (grade 5), Tran Thi Huong (grade 1), and Tran Viet Hung (grade 4) to their final resting place. Everyone cried and felt sorry for the two families of their uncle and aunt who had died at the same time.

Seemingly still not believing what had just happened, Mr. Thanh recounted: “Every day, the children just stayed at home playing and watching TV, but today there was a power outage and they didn’t have to go herding cows, so Trung, Huong and Hung invited each other to go out without their families knowing. By the time I got the news and got there, it was too late.”

Recalling the incident, Mr. Tran Van Phung - a police officer of Dien Quang commune said: "Everyone only knew the news when two children ran home to report it. As soon as I heard the news, I, along with the neighbors and commune officials, immediately ran to the scene but saw the lake surface was calm. Then, Mr. Thin, the village secretary, and I jumped into the lake and saw a very heartbreaking scene at the bottom of the lake. One by one, Trung was pulled to shore, then Hung, and then Huong. Seeing the heartbreaking scene, everyone shed tears because they had never witnessed such a heartbreaking incident."

Since hearing the news of her two children's death, Giang, their mother, fainted repeatedly, and had to ask the doctor to take care of her. Whenever she woke up, she wanted to follow her children. Then she cried until her voice was hoarse, calling out the names of her two little children to the helplessness of those around her, causing everyone to shed tears. "My children, where are you? Why did you leave your parents? How are we supposed to live now? You said you were going to the end of the school year tomorrow to receive a certificate of merit. Why did you end up like this, my children?". Witnessing that scene, we could not hold back our emotions, we could only encourage her and her family, hoping that the family would soon overcome this pain and stabilize their lives...

Neighbors and brothers came to encourage relatives of the drowned children.

About 10 meters from Thanh and Giang's house is Hung's house (Thanh's younger brother) whose son Hung also died yesterday in the construction lake. He and his wife got married in 2006 and had only one child, Hung. They were trying to work to save some money to have another child to make their family happy when this incident happened. Thanh and Giang were working for a brother in Hanoi. Because their parents were not home, Trung was taken care of by his uncles, aunts, and grandmother. Because of his busy work, he could only come back to visit his son once in a while, while Giang really wanted to come back but could not neglect her work to go back.

Mr. Thanh recalls: “At around 4 p.m., my husband and I received news from our hometown, so we rushed home. We didn’t get home until 9 p.m. and saw the house packed with villagers, with two cold coffins placed in front. My husband and I were stunned because we couldn’t believe it was true.”

Since hearing the news, the neighbors, without anyone telling them, each person came to help the family. Occasionally, the cries of relatives rose up, making everyone feel heartbroken and sad... With red eyes, Thanh occasionally wiped his tears with the hem of his shirt. He said that every day when his parents called their relatives, everyone said that Hung did not go out anywhere, just stayed at his uncles' and grandparents' house. But today, for some reason, the children invited each other to go on such a long trip. "Just the other day, when I called, he said he had received a certificate of merit and that the school year would be summarized on May 30. And he told his parents to come back at the beginning of the month to buy him a gift. But before his parents could fulfill their promise, he left his parents and left" - Thanh said emotionally.

Behind the house, Ms. Ha cried out her son’s name. She cried for her son, and blamed herself for not being able to stay home to look after him, which led to such a heartbreaking incident. But the people around her could only wipe away their tears to comfort her.

What makes people feel indignant is that such a vast lake has no fence, adults who accidentally slip and fall will die, not to mention children. By the time the heartbreaking incident happens, it is too late.
