(Baonghean.vn) - The National Action Month on Population in 2023 with the theme "Participate in pre-marital health consultation and examination for family happiness, for the future of the country" is an opportunity to raise awareness and sense of responsibility for population work and development in the new situation.
On the morning of December 6, in Quy Hop district, the Provincial Steering Committee for Population and Development coordinated with the Quy Hop District Steering Committee for Population and Development to organize the Launching Ceremony of the National Action Month on Population and the 62nd Anniversary of Vietnam Population Day (December 26, 1961 - December 26, 2023) in 2023.

Attending the launching ceremony were delegates from the Ministry of Health: Hoang Thi Thom - Deputy Director of the Department of Population; Pham Hong Quan - Director of the Management Board of Project 818 and other comrades in the delegation.
On the side of Nghe An province, there were comrades: Nguyen Ba Tan - Head of the Provincial Department of Population and Family Planning; Cao Duc Trung - Standing Deputy Secretary, Chairman of the People's Council of Quy Hop district; Hoang Van Thai - Vice Chairman, Head of the Steering Committee for Population and Development of Quy Hop district, delegates in the Provincial Steering Committee for Population, representatives of districts, cities and towns in the province.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, comrade Nguyen Ba Tan - Head of the Department of Population and Family Planning pointed out the difficulties and challenges in population work in Nghe An.
Currently, Nghe An is still a province with a large population (ranked 4th in the country), a high birth rate (ranked in the top 6 provinces with the highest birth rate in the country), the birth rate of the third child or more is still high and at risk of increasing.

In addition, the gender imbalance at birth and population aging are at an alarming level. The quality of the population is not commensurate with the province's potential. In particular, the issue of pre-marital reproductive health care, adolescent and youth health care; health care for the elderly, mothers and children still face many difficulties; children born with malnutrition, stunted growth, congenital malformations and disabilities still have many issues that need attention...
From the above reality, it is necessary to be more aware of the importance of doing well the current population work. In particular, it is necessary to continue to proactively and actively implement effectively Resolution No. 21 of the Politburo, the spirit of the 13th National Congress of the Party Central Committee on population work and the Vietnam Population Strategy to 2030 of the Prime Minister.
National Action Month on Population2023 with the theme "Participate in pre-marital health consultation and examination for family happiness, for the future of the country" to promote and mobilize all young people to participate in pre-marital health consultation and examination before marriage. This not only shows concern for one's own health but also fulfills responsibility for the future, happiness of one's own family and the whole society.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Population Hoang Thi Thom acknowledged and highly appreciated the population work of Nghe An province. Notably, the province has always been at the forefront of timely advisory work, proactively seizing opportunities, knowing how to choose priority issues to resolutely direct the effective implementation of building and replicating models and typical examples of population and development work to contribute to stabilizing the scale and improving the quality of the population.

In addition to the achievements, the Deputy Director of the Department of Population also pointed out the difficulties, especially when the whole country has reached the replacement fertility rate, Nghe An is still a province with a high fertility rate. In that context, Nghe An population work needs to carry out the "dual task" of both making efforts to reduce births and improving population quality.
In order to effectively organize activities in response to the National Action Month on Population and implement the population work tasks of Nghe An in the coming time, the leaders of the Department of Population requested the Department of Health (the direct advisory unit is the Department of Population - Family Planning) to urgently develop and protect the plan with the Department of Planning and Investment, the Department of Finance on activities, local budget investment for population work in 2024 and the following years. Especially the programs, plans and projects on population have been approved by the Provincial People's Committee to ensure sufficient resources to implement the goals and targets of the local population tasks every year.
The province also needs to promote the locality's initiative, creativity, and overcoming difficulties, focusing on implementing drastic and synchronous solutions and communication activities. In the immediate future, it is necessary to focus on the goal of reducing births and improving the quality of reproductive health care and family planning services.
On the part of the population sector, it is necessary to mobilize and gain support from Party committees and authorities at all levels, the participation of departments, sectors and unions, and especially the promotion of the role of the Steering Committee for Population and Development at all levels... At the same time, continue to care for, encourage and motivate the entire staff working in population to overcome difficulties, promote the spirit of solidarity, overcome difficulties, and strive to complete assigned tasks.

At the launching ceremony, representatives of the Management Board of Project 818 - Ministry of Health presented 15 gifts to families that have well implemented the population policy of Quy Hop district./.
