(Baonghean.vn) - Cold weather, drizzle... create favorable conditions for pathogens to develop, spread and cause disease. The Provincial People's Committee has just issued Directive No. 32/CT-UBND on strengthening the prevention and control of animal diseases in late 2022 and early 2023.

Cold protection and disease prevention for livestock

In Con Cuong district, there has just been a caseAfrican swine feverin Trung Huong village, Yen Khe commune, causing 1 pig to die. Mr. Le Trung Loi - Vice Chairman of Yen Khe commune People's Committee said that after discovering the outbreak in Trung Huong village, the commune directed the village executive committee and instructed people to urgently isolate the area to contain the epidemic. According to Mr. Lo Van Ly - Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Rural DevelopmentCon CuongIn recent years, in the district, African swine fever has affected the development of the pig herd, and herd restoration has encountered many difficulties due to lack of breeds and risks when the disease is still latent. To ensure food sources for people at the end of the year, the district has directed localities to step up propaganda work to people on disease prevention and control in livestock herds; promptly detect diseases in livestock herds to have solutions to control them on a small scale.

“Currently, there is no disease in livestock in Con Cuong district, but the potential for disease outbreaks is still high, because old African swine fever outbreaks still have the risk of recurrence. Therefore, in addition to disease prevention and control, the district also directs localities to propagate and guide people to implement solutions to prevent hunger and cold for livestock,” said Mr. Lo Van Ly.

Dien Chau district is a locality with many slaughterhouses and transportation points for livestock and poultry, so the risk of animal diseases is always high, especially African swine fever and H5N1 avian flu, lumpy skin disease in buffaloes and cows, etc.

Mr. Le The Hieu - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dien Chau district said that along with preventing hunger and cold for livestock, the district focuses on implementing solutions to prevent and control animal diseases. At the end of the year, especially near the Lunar New Year, people slaughter pigs, cows and chickens a lot, so the risk of disease outbreaks for livestock is high, so propaganda work must be regular and at the same time, chemicals must be sprayed to disinfect the environment at concentrated slaughterhouses.

Implementing solutions to prevent and control epidemics

Currently, African swine fever is still occurring sporadically in some small-scale livestock farms; in particular, in November, there were some outbreaks of H5N1 avian influenza in Hung Nguyen district and Vinh city. Therefore, the risk of disease outbreaks in livestock herds in late 2022 and early 2023 is very high.

Early this December, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee issued Directive No. 32-CT-UBND on strengthening the work ofanimal disease preventionin late 2022 and early 2023.

Review and organize vaccination against dangerous diseases in livestock herds: avian influenza, lumpy skin disease, rabies, foot and mouth disease... ensuring the vaccination rate reaches over 80% of the total herd.

For existing localitiesavian influenza, African swine fever, focus on directing, mobilizing human and material resources to surround, control, and completely handle outbreaks in small areas. Strengthen control of slaughtering, transporting animals, animal products, etc. Organize and implement general cleaning, disinfection, and environmental decontamination to destroy pathogens, especially in localities that have had and are having epidemics, high-risk areas, etc.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development established working groups to guide, urge, supervise and inspect the work of preventing and controlling diseases in livestock, poultry and aquaculture, especially vaccination.
