Nghe An actively builds smart traffic project

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is the application of technology including sensors, electronic controls, information technology and telecommunications in the field of transportation to operate and manage transportation systems.

By the end of 2018, the province was managing 102,868 cars; 1,538,836 motorbikes; 73,886 electric motorbikes and 856 inland waterway vehicles. The growth rate of motor vehicles is among the highest in the country (about 15%/year). In addition, every day there are about 18,000 inter-provincial cars operating on the roads in the province. In recent years, Nghe An has had more than 400 casualties due to traffic accidents each year. Local traffic congestion has occurred; traffic infrastructure is not synchronous; land funds for traffic infrastructure and public works are not commensurate. According to the agency developing the project, with the above situations, the orientation of developing smart traffic is a comprehensive solution.

The project's goal by 2010 is to initially build at the accessibility level. By 2025, provide necessary services to increase convenience for people when participating in traffic, build a number of solutions towards reducing the rate of traffic accidents sustainably, minimize traffic congestion in urban areas, strictly manage means of transport, public transport, and personal transport in a sustainable manner.

The tasks of building smart traffic are divided into 3 phases with 18 specific tasks such as upgrading the traffic control room at the Department of Transport and the traffic safety and order monitoring room at the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Public Security, installing additional traffic monitoring equipment systems; completing the infrastructure to connect traffic monitoring equipment; piloting the construction of an automatic vehicle load control station and connecting current load scales...

At the meeting, representatives of the provincial police, the Department of Finance... gave their opinions on the contents of the project. The Department of Transport and the consulting unit discussed and explained the contents of the opinions of the sectors.

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Le Hong Vinh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that this project has been implemented in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, so when Nghe An implements it later, it must be smarter. This is a difficult project, the province's transport infrastructure system still has many limitations, so it needs a large amount of capital.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that with the current limited traffic situation in Nghe An, the project needs to be carefully evaluated, providing smart, effective, economical solutions, integrating many contents. The Department of Transport will preside over and coordinate with the consulting unit to receive opinions from the sectors to complete the draft project, before submitting it to the Provincial People's Committee.
