Speaking to reporters in Beijing after being released by Malaysian authorities, Mr. Ri said that police had forced him to confess to his involvement in the murder of Kim Jong-nam with "fabricated evidence."

He also accused the Malaysian police investigation of being a ploy to smear the dignity of the North Korean nation.

The 46-year-old arrived at Beijing airport early on March 4 after being deported from Malaysia on March 3. He was expected to return to North Korea later.

To date, Ri is the only North Korean arrested in the investigation into Kim Jong-nam's death.

Ri was released due to lack of evidence to charge him, while Malaysian police are searching for another North Korean believed to be inside the North Korean Embassy in Kuala Lumpur./.
