Summer vacation, many male students stay in the city to work as porters
(Baonghean.vn) –From mid-June, universities and colleges in Vinh city enter summer vacation. Instead of planning to travel or go home, many students choose to find part-time jobs tohave additional costs "book light".
For students today, working part-time is no longer strange. Stemming from the need to earn extra income, covering living expenses due to limited family economic conditions, and for many students, working part-time is considered an experience in life that few schools offer.
Although his hometown is Thanh Hoa, this summer Duc Anh (Nghe An University of Economics) did not return home but stayed in Vinh to work extra to help his family pay for the upcoming school year. “I work as a porter for stores in Vinh market. The work is quite hard but I have to try hard...”, Duc Anh shared.

At Vinh market, many students from colleges and universities in the city stay in the summer to work as porters to earn extra income. |
Every day, Duc Anh has to go to work early, sometimes from 4am until late at night. Duc Anh confided: “Every day I earn about 100,000 - 200,000 VND. Many days I am tired but because I regret the work, I still try to go to work. I plan to finish work next month and then go home for a few days, because my parents and younger brother at home are also waiting for me.”
Walking around Vinh market, it is not difficult to see male students working as porters for shops. Working for hire has its own troubles, luckily there are kind shop owners who see the hot weather, hard work, buy drinks and pay extra, but there are also many people who pay meager wages.

During the summer, many students consider part-time work as an experience. Nguyen Thi Quynh (a student majoring in Pedagogy at Vinh University) is currently tutoring a 4th grader. This job gives her a lot of practical experience for the field she is studying.
Quynh said: “At first, because the students were quite quiet, teaching was very difficult for a student like me. But gradually, each time I taught, I learned new methods to teach more effectively. The salary was 1 million VND/month, the amount was only enough for travel and buying additional teaching tools, but for me, the experiences from tutoring were more valuable than the material value gained.”

Tutoring is a summer part-time job chosen by many education students. |
Pedagogical situations can only be achieved through practical experience. Quynh excitedly “showed off”: “Thanks to my nearly 2 years of tutoring experience, during my recent internship, I was well-evaluated by my teacher for my ability to stand in class confidently and know how to handle situations.”
Currently, jobs such as waiter, bartender, parking attendant, flyer distributor, hourly maid, online sales, etc. attract many students. Most of the jobs do not require much experience, so they are the top choice for students.

Waiting tables at restaurants, cafes... is not a bad choice for many students this summer. |
Working part-time helps students earn more income and gain a deeper insight into life, but it also brings many problems and affects their lives. Working as a waitress at a beer house, and with a pretty appearance, Ha Trang (Vinh University) said: "I am often teased by male customers here, who make rude comments and act impolitely. Therefore, after just over a week of working, I felt scared and had to quit my job." Ha Trang's case is not uncommon when working part-time, especially in "sensitive" jobs.
Even after months of being absorbed in making money, the education of many students is unfinished. There are some cases of "making money" but spending without a plan, leading to debt, affecting life. To have a meaningful part-time job, bringing effective support for studying, students need to clearly define their purpose when working, do not let immediate benefits affect the future.
