Bahrun Naim is the suspect identified by Jakarta police chief Tito Karnavian as being behind the explosions in the centre of the Indonesian capital this morning.
In the article, published on November 16, 2015, Naim appeared to describe the Paris attacks as “inspirational” and praised the perpetrators for their discipline, planning ability and willingness to risk their lives.
"Why were these attacks inspiring? First, a large number of people were killed. Second, the attacks were well planned in terms of target, timing and a courageous ending. Only elite fighters would use suicide belts rather than risk being captured or surrounded."
The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for the massacre in Paris on November 13, 2015, which killed 130 people.
Mr. Karnavian confirmed that IS was also responsible for the bombing and shooting in central Jakarta this morning, killing 7 people and injuring 23 others.
An IS media outlet said the extremist group had carried out an armed attack on foreigners and security forces responsible for protecting them in the Indonesian capital. There was no official confirmation of the claim.
