Due to fraudulent behavior, a 22-year-old girl, her mother and aunt "invited each other" to hang themselves...

In the early morning of July 29, people in Ba So hamlet, Nhi Truong commune, Cau Ngang district, Tra Vinh province woke up when they heard the desperate cry for help from Ms. Ngo Thi Hoa (57 years old), a local resident.

Upon arrival, everyone was shocked to see the mother and daughter, Mrs. Ngo Thi Tuoi (61 years old, Mrs. Hoa's sister) and Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang (22 years old), dead by hanging. The information was immediately reported to the police to clarify the incident.

According to Ms. Hoa's statement and the initial verification results of the police agency, due to economic hardship, around April 2015, taking advantage of the trust of Mr. Ngo Thanh Tai (in Cu Chi, Ho Chi Minh City) and Mr. Ngo Thanh Quoc (residing in Ba So hamlet, Nhi Truong commune, who are Ms. Hang's two cousins), Ms. Hang spread fake news that the family of these two people was "cursed", if not "resolved", the people in the house would have accidents or illnesses.

Ms. Hang claimed that she was the one who could “break” that kind of “spell”, and that if you wanted to “break” the spell, you had to make an offering of money. Believing in Hang’s words, from around April 2015 to April 2016, Mr. Tai and Mr. Quoc “made an offering” of money to have her “break” the spell, totaling 746 million VND.

In June 2017, knowing that he had been scammed, Mr. Tai filed a complaint with the Cau Ngang District Police. On July 25, 2017, Mr. Quoc also filed a complaint with the District Police requesting a resolution to the case of Hang defrauding and appropriating his property. During the time at the police station, Hang admitted to taking advantage of superstition to appropriate property from Mr. Tai and Mr. Quoc.

Thinking of suicide, Ms. Hang went home and told Mrs. Tuoi and Mrs. Hoa about the incident and wanted to commit suicide. Her mother and aunt tried to dissuade her, but Hang still decided to commit suicide. When they failed to persuade Hang, Mrs. Tuoi and Mrs. Hoa wanted to commit suicide with Hang.

The three people agreed to do it together at 12 noon on July 28. Ms. Hoa went to the market to buy a 7 meter long rope, cut it into 3 pieces and prepared it.

At noon, there were guests at home so the three of them could not do it. At around 2am, after preparing clothes to “bring along” and taking a shower, the three of them tied a rope to the roof to hang themselves. At this time, Mrs. Hoa’s rope came untied and she fell to the ground. Mrs. Hoa tied the rope again and continued to do it, but it came untied again and she tried a third time but still failed. Seeing Mrs. Tuoi and Hang dead, Mrs. Hoa thought that her sister and nephew would not let her die with them, so she ran out to call for help.

The case is being further investigated and clarified by the police.
