"This year, I have had the opportunity to witness firsthand the remarkable growth in our bilateral relationship and the rapid positive changes taking place in Vietnam. You have much to be proud of as a strong, dynamic nation with a vibrant culture, deeply engaged with friends and partners in the region," the US Secretary of State wrote on August 30 in a statement congratulating Vietnam's National Day.
He listed the achievements of the Vietnam-US relationship over the past year, such as expanding security ties, developing new business relationships and promoting people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. According to the US Secretary of State, the visits of President Trump, Secretary of Defense Mattis and Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue have reinforced the two countries' shared commitment to peace, security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
"We look forward to deepening our partnership in the year ahead. Our two nations share a bright future and our friendship is filled with even more promise," Pompeo stressed.
