US Secretary of State: The United States will "resolutely respond to China's aggressive actions"
The United States intends to "resolutely respond to China's aggressive actions," US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said.
"China is trying to gain leadership, use its power and influence in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. Under President (Donald) Trump's leadership, the United States is responding strongly to China's aggressive actions," Mr. Pompeo told the US Congress.

“America’s future security, prosperity, and leadership depend on maintaining a free, open, and secure Asia-Pacific region,” Pompeo added.
To that end, the Trump administration’s budget proposal to Congress would double assistance to countries in the region, he said, while the State Department’s overall budget is expected to be cut by 21 percent, mostly in foreign aid.
