Russian and US foreign ministers agree to hold a private meeting
On May 12, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed by phone the bilateral contact schedule, including Washington's proposal to hold a US-Russia Summit.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said, "a schedule of other Russian-US contacts in the coming period was discussed, including Washington's proposal to hold a Russia-US Summit."
During the conversation, the topic of interaction between the two countries in the Arctic Council was mentioned, in particular in connection with the transfer of the chairmanship of this structure to Russia at the council's ministerial session in Reykjavik on May 20.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the parties "exchanged views on approaches to the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, restored the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action for the Iranian nuclear program and considered tasks in the field of strategic stability."
Previously, last April, US President Joe Biden proposed holding a meeting with Russian leader V. Putin in a third country to discuss the growing tensions related to Russia.
