Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov: Western efforts to isolate Russia have failed
(Baonghean.vn) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the West has failed to isolate Russia, while most of the world is still interested in maintaining good relations with Moscow.
He also argued that the trend toward multipolarity was irreversible, whether the former colonial powers liked it or not.
Speaking at the World Online Conference on Multipolarity on April 29, Foreign Minister Lavrov stressed that “the attempts of Washington and its vassals to reverse history and force the international community to live according to the ‘rules-based order’ are proving to be a failure,” citing the West’s “complete failure” in “isolating Russia.”

According to Foreign Minister Lavrov, a number of countries, representing 85% of the world’s population, have declared that they will not obey the old colonial powers. The Russian diplomat said that delegates from dozens of countries “from almost every continent” attended the online forum, which shows how the idea of multipolarity has gained traction.
Mr. Lavrov noted that new global centers are emerging in Eurasia, the Indo-Pacific region, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America, and that these countries are pursuing independent policies based on national interests.
According to Foreign Minister Lavrov, developing countries have been steadily expanding their share in the global economy over the past three decades, while the role of G7 countries has been gradually decreasing.
He also welcomed the fact that more and more countries are expressing their desire to join “new-style” international groupings, such as the BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Mr. Lavrov explained that Russia supports a multipolar world order based on respect for the UN Charter and a “balance of interests” as opposed to a “balance of fear.”
A day earlier, President Vladimir Putin declared that Russia would not follow “so-called rules” imposed by “certain countries.”
In addition, when speaking to members of the SCO, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stated that the West is putting “unprecedented pressure” on independent countries to turn them against Russia and China, and at the same time weakening the rise of a multipolar world./.
