It is extremely wrong to assume that China wants to become a second United States or replace it, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.

"Some representatives from the US side are suspicious and concerned about China. They think that a strong country must be a usurper, that in the future China will definitely challenge or replace the US. This is a very serious strategic mistake," Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in an interview with the People's Daily newspaper on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of China-US diplomatic relations.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that China firmly adheres to the path of peaceful development and an open strategy that brings common benefits.
"China has no intention of becoming the United States, let alone replacing the United States. In China-US relations, just like in relations with other countries, there may be competition, but this is positive competition and adheres to principles," the Chinese Foreign Minister affirmed.
He also added that cooperation between Beijing and Washington needs to be further promoted.
