The patient woman seriously injured her ex-husband.
Not long after getting married and having children, Do Thi Lanh and her husband (born in 1967, residing in Thuong Dat area, Tu Minh ward, Hai Duong city) often had conflicts. The husband, who was once gentle, fell into gambling and drinking. The couple's savings over the years gradually disappeared. Moreover, every time he got drunk, the husband would beat and curse his wife and children.

Once, Lanh was beaten unconscious by her husband in the middle of the street. Afterwards, he dragged her into a pond and almost drowned her. Luckily, people discovered her and Lanh was saved. Many times the authorities called the husband to the commune headquarters to warn and fine him, but he did not wake up and continued his bad habits.
Too scared of her husband's beatings, Lanh and her children had to take refuge at relatives' houses many times. But the abusive husband did not leave them alone. He brought gasoline to threaten and burn down their house. Afraid of implicating her relatives, Lanh had to reluctantly return home and endure her husband's abuse. However, in 2014, Lanh decided to divorce her abusive husband.
It was thought that after the divorce, the life of mother and child would turn to a new, better page. However, tragedy continued to haunt. With the reason that his ex-wife had taken all the land use right certificates and the house of the couple, the husband had repeatedly come to see her to curse and demand them back. Not wanting the house and land to be "burned" by his alcoholic, violent husband on gambling, Lanh was determined to keep those assets for her children.
Angry at Lanh’s actions, on the evening of November 27, 2016, her ex-husband took a knife to Lanh’s younger brother’s house – where she was staying – to threaten and intimidate. Knowing what happened, Lanh’s relatives intervened in time and chased him away. Not giving up his intention, at 10 a.m. the next morning, he continued to carry a long iron pipe with a knife attached, aggressively went to Lanh’s younger brother’s house and threatened to kill him.
Fearing that her ex-husband would injure her younger brother, Lanh ran forward and quickly snatched the weapon from her ex-husband's hand. Then, as if filled with anger and humiliation, she used the handle of the weapon to hit her ex-husband's leg, causing 26% damage to his health.
Lanh was proposed to be prosecuted with a penalty of 2-7 years in prison for intentionally causing injury. However, at the request of the victim, the People's Court of Hai Duong City decided to return the file to the People's Procuracy of Hai Duong City for further investigation to clarify some related acts and details.
