On January 22, the People's Court of Ca Mau province sentenced Mr. Huu Be (58 years old, in Thoi Binh district) to 7 years in prison for the crime of Child Molestation; forced to compensate the victim's family 13 million VND.
This is a sentence that has been given with aggravating circumstances because throughout the trial, Mr. Be was always evasive and denied his guilt.
According to the indictment, between June and September 2016, Mr. Be took advantage of the innocence and lack of knowledge of a 13-year-old girl living near his house to seduce, call, write a meeting note, and give money to commit obscene acts against the victim.
On the afternoon of February 10, 2017, the family discovered the girl was purple, with many medicine containers nearby, so they took her to the emergency room, but the victim died the next morning.
TBefore she died, the girl wrote a suicide note accusing Mr. Be of repeatedly harming her. The family reported the incident to the police but it was not handled, making her feel resentful.
After many months of investigation, on September 19, Ca Mau Provincial Police temporarily detained Mr. Be.
Regarding the case, the Ministry of Public Security decided to remove Lieutenant Colonel Tran Hong Loc from his position as Deputy Head of the Investigation Police Agency; and Lieutenant Colonel Do Tan Dat from his position as team leader and intermediate investigator - when proposing to suspend the investigation because no evidence was found to charge Mr. Be.
