According to a survey by consumer research and retail market data company NielsenIQ, more than half (52%) of Germans now limit their purchases to products they really need.

"It's remarkable that more and more people are wondering if it's okay to not have this or that, and then they actually cut back on buying it," NielsenIQ expert Lothar Stiblin told DPA.

According to the results of a survey conducted among more than 10,000 people, 52% of German residents only buy essential products.

About 44% said they are avoiding products associated with entertainment or luxury, 31% are trying to limit their restaurant visits, and about 30% of those surveyed agreed that they are shopping less in the current circumstances.

“The longer the crisis lasts, the more people have the opportunity to save,” - expert Stiblin commented.

For example, shoppers are starting to compare prices more closely, pay more attention to special sales and give preference to cheaper food items.

The West has increased pressure on Russia over Ukraine, leading to rising electricity, fuel and food prices in Europe and the United States. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that deterrence and weakening Russia is a long-term Western strategy, and that sanctions have had serious consequences for the world economy.

According to him, the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people. Moscow has repeatedly stated that Russia will solve all the problems created by the West.
