She worked as a bank manager before moving into real estate. Taking advantage of the booming economy, Rosmah sold luxury properties to wealthy Malaysians.

In 1987, Mr. Najib Razak, thenThe Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, divorced his first wife and married Rosmah. The couple has two children, including daughter Nooryana, who is the wife of the President's nephew.Kazakhstan.

Passion for luxury goods

Since 1991, when Najib was appointed Defence Minister, Rosmah’s reputation for arrogance and lavish lifestyle has also begun to spread. She has a passion for high-end jewelry and is said to have threatened to close a jewelry store, forcing them to give her a piece worth tens of thousands of RM.

In 2011, she was rumored to have imported a $24 million diamond ring from a jeweler in New York, USA. The amount of money was so large that it shocked most Malaysians, but it is not difficult to understand when looking at Rosmah's massive collection of Hermes Birkin bags.

She has at least a dozen bags of the same model but in different colors from the French luxury brand.. Each piece is estimated to fetch a minimum of $150,000, with the total value of the collection estimated to be over one million dollars.

Madam Rosmah is also passionate about luxury watches and owns several. Many diamond-encrusted watches worth tens of thousands of dollars from brands like Hublot or Richard Mille Lady.

In 2015, she faced criticism for spending more than $300 to hire a hairdresser to come to her home, while the minimum wage for Malaysians is less than $230 a month, a figure critics said is rarely achieved.

In 2016,Wall Street JournalCiting a report revealing that Mr. Najib's wife spent a total of at least $6 million on clothes, shoes, and jewelry over seven years, from 2008 to 2015. The figure was collected from her credit card.

The newspaper questioned the source of the money as "she is the only child in a family of teachers, has no stable job and her husband is a long-time official with an annual salary of 100,000 USD".Most of Rosmah's shopping sprees were recorded at high-end shopping malls in the UK, the US and many other countries.

That same year, her business trip to Qatar on a government VIP plane cost more than $100,000, and she was also accused of embezzling nearly $300,000 in public funds to buy anti-aging products.

While the first lady's lavish lifestyle has outraged Malaysians, she has claimed that she used her savings to satisfy her shopping needs.

“I bought some jewellery and dresses with my own money. What’s wrong with that?” Rosmah said in her 2013 biography, which explained the scandal involving a million-dollar ring and the fact that the wife of a prime minister was often given expensive gifts instead of buying them herself.

According to documents from the US Department of Justice lawsuit in July 2016, nearly $30 million from the state investment fund 1MDB, which Mr. Najib established in 2009 to develop the economy, was used to serve Ms. Rosmah's shopping, including a pink diamond to be attached to a necklace. After only 6 years of operation, 1MDB caused a debt of up to $12 billion, pushing Mr. Najib into the law on corruption charges.

When searching the home of the former Malaysian prime minister on May 16, police confiscated nearly 300 designer bags and 72 bags of money, filling five vehicles.
