Former General Secretary Le Kha Phieu passed away.
Comrade Le Kha Phieu, born in 1931, former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, passed away at 2:52 a.m. on August 7, 2020 in Hanoi.
According to the Central Committee for the Protection and Care of Officials' Health, comrade Le Kha Phieu, born in 1931, former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, after a period of illness, despite the Party, State, professors and doctors' devoted treatment and the wholehearted care of his family, due to old age and poor health, he passed away at 2:52 a.m. on August 7, 2020 in Hanoi.
The visitation, memorial service and burial ceremony of comrade Le Kha Phieu will be announced later.
Senior Lieutenant General Le Kha Phieu was born on December 27, 1931 in Dong Khe commune, Dong Son district, Thanh Hoa province.
He has held many positions in the Army, serving as Director of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army; was elected General Secretary of the Party Central Committee at the 4th Central Conference (VIII Term). He is a delegate to the 10th National Assembly.
As General Secretary of the Party Central Committee (December 1997 - April 2001), he and the Central Committee, Politburo, and Secretariat led the entire Party, people, and army to achieve many great achievements in the cause of innovation, industrialization, modernization, national construction and defense.
