US journalist who insulted Putin has been fired from Fox News channel

21st Century Fox, which owns the Fox News channel, said it has fired top political commentator Bill O'Reilly, who previously called Russian President Vladimir Putin a "killer."

"The company and Bill O'Reilly have agreed that he will not return to Fox News," the statement said.

Fox had previously been reported to have paid $13 million to settle a lawsuit filed by several women against O'Reilly, accusing him of sexual harassment. Sponsors of the shows he hosted began pulling their advertising contracts.

In February 2017, in an interview with US President Donald Trump, Bill O'Reilly reiterated the accusations the West made against Moscow and called Mr. Putin a "killer".

Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said such remarks were unacceptable and said the Kremlin expected an apology from the journalist.
