Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen takes oath of office
According to AFP/Kyodo, on May 20, Ms. Tsai Ing-wen was sworn in, becoming the first female leader of Taiwan.

Ms. Tsai Ing-wen read the oath of office at the Presidential Office in Taipei after winning a resounding victory in the election last January.
Since Tsai Ing-wen and the Democratic Progressive Party won Taiwan's presidential and legislative elections earlier this year, China has repeatedly warned against any moves toward independence from the territory.
Meanwhile, Ms. Tsai Ing-wen declared that she wanted to maintain peace with China./.
