Receiving bribes, former Head of Education Department and subordinates were arrested
Quang Nam Provincial Police have just prosecuted and temporarily detained the former Head of the Department of Education and Training of Hoi An City and his subordinates for the crime of accepting bribes.
On the afternoon of June 20, Quang Nam Provincial Police announced that they had just issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain 5 suspects for the crimes of Bribery, Receiving Bribery and Violating Bidding Regulations causing serious consequences at the Department of Education and Training of Hoi An City.
The five defendants include: Nguyen Van Duong (former Head of the Department of Education and Training of Hoi An City, retired); Pham Dien (former specialist of the Department of Education and Training, now Vice Principal of Kim Dong Secondary School, Hoi An City); Nguyen Ngoc Sy (specialist of the Department of Education and Training); Nguyen Thi Thu Diep (business in educational equipment) and Nguyen Khuu Dong Phong (Director of Phu Vi LLC).
Investigation results show that from 2019 to 2021, the Department of Education and Training of Hoi An City was assigned as the investor to purchase educational equipment.
During the process of organizing the implementation of the bidding packages, Duong directed two subordinates, Dien and Sy, to receive money to create conditions for Diep and Phong to win the bid and share according to the contract value.
Hoi An City Department of Education and Training has executed equipment purchase contracts worth more than 14 billion VND with Diep and Phong.
According to the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Nam Province, the actions of Diep and Phong constitute the crime of Bribery. The actions of Duong, Dien and Sy constitute the crime of Bribery.
The case is under further investigation.
