Replicating the Bac Thinh rice variety model in production areas

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of May 17, Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with Thanh Hoa Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dien Chau District People's Committee and North Central Seed Company to organize a workshop to evaluate the productivity and quality of Bac Thinh rice variety produced in the 2017 spring crop.

The Bac Thinh rice variety production model was implemented in the Ruong Sau field of Phuc Thiem hamlet, Dien Phuc commune, Dien Chau district, with an area of ​​5 hectares, with 40 participating farming households having adjacent fields. The rice variety was researched and produced by the North Central Seed Company.

Households participating in the model are provided 100% of seeds and technical training by the company. Bac Thinh rice variety is a pure quality rice variety, selected and created by Thanh Hoa Agricultural Seed Science and Technology Research Center from the hybrid combination MS4/Huong Thom No. 1.

According to the assessment of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, the rice variety has the characteristics of compact, hard plants, plant height of about 100 cm, strong tillering ability, tolerance to intensive cultivation, long panicles, long slender grains, bright yellow color, clear rice grains, high percentage of solid grains, soft and sticky rice, with a light aroma. The variety has good lodging resistance, is slightly susceptible to brown spot disease, blast disease, brown planthoppers, etc.

Spring crop growth period is from 130 - 132 days, rice yield on the model reaches 66 quintals/ha, profit compared to investment reaches nearly 22 million VND/ha.

At the workshop, farmers said that families participating in the model followed the correct scientific and technical care process as trained by the company. Bac Thinh rice variety from sowing to harvest has few pests and diseases, limited use of pesticides, hard stems, high percentage of solid grains, and higher yield than previously cultivated rice varieties.

From the success of the model, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection proposed that localities have plans and funds to replicate the model in production areas and intensive rice cultivation. The North Central Seed Company continues to build models of Bac Thinh rice seed production in localities, different seasons and different soils in Nghe An for a more comprehensive assessment.
