Navalny had previously announced his intention to organize groups of supporters in 20 cities across the country. However, the head of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamphilova, said in the summer that Navalny would not be able to run for office in this election because of his criminal record, and that by law his candidacy would only be restored in 2028.
On December 24, Mr. Navalny submitted his candidacy to the above committee, but committee representative Evgheni Shevchenko said that submitting the application does not mean confirming the applicant's candidacy./.
