Imported 4,217 cars, prices have not decreased much, some cars have increased
There were 4,217 cars of all kinds imported by Vietnamese enterprises and launched into the market in the first 3 months of 2018.
According to the General Department of Customs, by the end of March 2018, 4,217 cars of all kinds were imported into Vietnam, much lower than the 26,366 cars imported in the same period last year. The number of cars originating from Thailand and Indonesia arriving in Vietnam is higher because businesses calculate profits when enjoying 0% import tax in the ASEAN region.

German, Japanese, Korean cars… account for a smaller proportion of imports.
However, with thousands of imported cars entering Vietnam enjoying a 0% tax rate, prices have not decreased as expected by consumers, and there are now signs of price increases due to "cost recalculation".
For example, Honda Vietnam suddenly announced that it would increase the price by 5 million VND/car for each imported car model. A representative of Honda Vietnam said that the price increase was due to the company having to recalculate the factors affecting car imports according to the new regulations of Decree 116/2017.
Previously, Honda attracted attention when it imported a batch of more than 1,000 cars, reducing the maximum price by 200 million VND/car and "talking" about a big price reduction. However, the selling price still did not decrease as much as expected, but the selling price was 70 - 90 million VND/car higher than other countries in the ASEAN region.
Meanwhile, Nissan car prices in April 2018 increased by 50 million VND for X-Trail and Sunny models and limited supply.
Accordingly, the Nissan X-Trail and Sunny models increased by 25 - 27 million VND depending on the version, along with the cut of accessory gifts worth 25-28 million VND, causing the price of these models to increase by more than 50 million VND.
In addition, customers who want to buy a car must sign a contract and wait until mid-April to get the car. In addition, the Navara pickup model is currently out of stock because it has stopped importing due to problems with import regulations.
