Nearly a month after enrolling, I found out I failed the university entrance exam.

Nearly a month after enrolling in the General Medicine major (Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy), Anh Tuan was suddenly informed that he "was not qualified to study this major because of incorrect priority points".

According to Nguyen Xuan Anh Tuan (residing in Quang Ngai City), he passed the first round of admission to the General Medicine Department of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Hue University) with a total score of 27.25 (including 0.5 points for region 2 and one priority point for group 06). On September 10, he completed the admission procedures and on October 5, he received a notice of withdrawal from Hue University due to a mistake about the priority group.

Mr. Tuan said that in his application, he declared himself as subject 06 because his father had served in international service in Cambodia for 5 years, was awarded the 3rd class Military Exploit Medal and had a decision to receive a one-time allowance issued by the Military Region 4 Command.

However, the admissions officer explained that Tuan did not belong to category 06. Because according to the admissions regulations, category 06 has a section "Children of people who participated in the resistance war for national liberation, national defense and international obligations with a certificate of preferential treatment according to the provisions of Decree No. 31/2013/ND-CP dated April 9, 2013 of the Government detailing and guiding the implementation of a number of articles of the Ordinance on preferential treatment for people with revolutionary contributions".

To calm his son down after the shock, on the night of October 8, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Bach (Tuan's father) took his son on a train back to his hometown for a while.

According to Article 49 of Decree 31, the dossier for preferential treatment includes a certificate of being awarded the Resistance Medal or Victory Medal, Resistance Medal or Victory Medal and a decision to receive a one-time allowance, issued by a competent authority. Based on these regulations, Anh Tuan is not subject 06.

"When I received the notice, I was extremely disappointed because I had been enrolled for nearly a month and I did not know about the wrong priority group," Anh Tuan shared, adding that he was instructed to apply to transfer to the Dentistry major (standard score 25.75) because when applying for admission, he registered his second choice for this major.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Bach (Tuan's father) said that the family had applied for Tuan to change his major as he had registered because his son was qualified. However, the admissions officer informed that the Dentistry major had met its quota and Tuan's request was not accepted.

"If my son had entered incorrect information, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy would have notified him immediately when reviewing his application so that he could make adjustments or register for another major. But now that he has already enrolled, if he is notified that he has failed, how can he have the spirit to study another major?" Mr. Bach was upset and said that if Tuan was not passionate about general medicine, with a score of 25.75 (group A), his son could have chosen a better major.

Because the Maxillofacial Surgery major has run out of quotas, Tuan Anh only has the choice of transferring to the Preventive Medicine major (still has quotas), or having to drop out of school.

Associate Professor Le Van Anh, Vice President of Hue University, said that according to admission principles, if there are errors in the application, the candidate must take full responsibility. In Anh Tuan's case, in the spirit of humanity, the Hue University Admissions Council agreed to let him apply for the Preventive Medicine major (Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy).

"I am really passionate about general medicine. If I were to quit now, I wouldn't know how to explain to my family and relatives," Anh Tuan confided. He said that if he was admitted to the Preventive Medicine major, he would continue studying, but he would definitely retake the university entrance exam next year.
