The 'dual' task of Nghe An Population Department
(Baonghean.vn) - The National Action Month on Population 2023 is organized with many exciting and practical activities, targeting many different subjects and regions. In particular, the main goal is still to focus on reducing births and improving population quality.
Variety of activities
Chau Quang Commune Health Station (Quy Hop District) is the location chosen by the Department of Population - Family Planning to provide reproductive health care - family planning services this December.
The activity has even more special meaning when it is integrated with the Launching Ceremony of the National Action Month on Population and has the participation of leaders of the Department of Population, Nghe An Department of Health, and the Department of Population - Family Planning.
The focus of the program is on counseling on reproductive health care and family planning methods.
In addition, women attending also received free examination, ultrasound, and medicine.

Coming to this program, the provincial delegation and directly the specialist doctor 2 Nguyen Ba Tan - Head of the Department of Population - Family Planning also directly provided health advice to a number of high-risk cases, to help people better understand their health situation and have solutions to prevent and treat diseases.
As one of the women who received counseling, Ms. Quang Thi Thuong (Quang Thanh hamlet - Chau Quang commune) added: I am 40 years old this year and have given birth to two children, so I am at high risk of getting women's diseases. For us women in the highlands, because of the remoteness of the roads and the limited economic situation, these programs are truly meaningful and practical.
Quy Hop is a mountainous district with a relatively high ethnic minority population.
In recent years, thanks to attention and investment, the work of Population - Reproductive Health - Family Planning in the district has had a strong change in both awareness and action.
However, there are still many difficulties and challenges, such as the rate of giving birth to a third child or more is still high, and early marriage and teenage pregnancy are still quite common.
Due to specific characteristics, the awareness of some segments of the population about population work is still limited, hindering the work of propaganda, mobilization, and implementation of population policy - family planning.

From the above reality, Mr. Hoang Van Thai - Vice Chairman of Quy Hop District People's Committee added: We determined that we must continue to innovate propaganda and mobilization work to raise awareness and responsibility among cadres, party members and people.
In addition, promote the mobilization of all young people to undergo premarital counseling and health check-ups before marriage, first of all for high-risk groups.
In Vinh city, in response to the National Action Month on Population, along with the launching ceremony, many other activities were organized, notably health examination and consultation for students in Quan Bau ward, pre-marital health examination and consultation, community health examination and care to improve population quality in Quang Trung ward, etc.
After the merger and restructuring of the team of collaborators, population work in Vinh city encountered some difficulties and significantly affected the implementation of activities. Therefore, we determined that it is necessary to continue to innovate propaganda and mobilization work to raise awareness and responsibility among cadres, party members and people, especially couples of childbearing age, to properly implement the Party's policies and the State's laws on population and development work.
Perform “dual” tasks
The National Action Month on Population 2023 has the theme "Participate in pre-marital counseling and health check-ups for family happiness and the future of the country".
Thereby, to propagate and mobilize all young people before marriage to participate in premarital health consultation and examination.
At the same time, it aims to raise people's awareness of the important role of pre-marital counseling and health check-ups, helping couples prepare mentally for married life and prepare their health to give birth to healthy children, contributing to improving population quality.
The 2014 Law on Marriage and Family stipulates that the marriageable age for men is 20 and for women is 18. However, current legal documents do not require a mandatory health check before marriage.
To ensure health for childbirth, medical experts recommend that pre-marital health check-ups help couples detect and treat many dangerous diseases early, avoiding consequences in life and the future of future generations.
Speaking more about the topic of Population Month 2023, Specialist Doctor II Nguyen Ba Tan - Head of DepartmentDepartment of Population and Family PlanningPremarital is the period from when a person becomes fertile to when they get married, including adolescents who have become fertile, to older people who have never been married.
Premarital health consultation and examination are very important for young people preparing to get married and enter married life to welcome a healthy baby.
In addition, it helps screen and detect early many genetic diseases that can affect children.
In Nghe An, in recent years, we have promoted propaganda work to help people raise awareness about premarital health consultation and examination in many forms such as consultation in the community, schools, and clubs.
In addition, coordinate with medical centers to do a good job of propaganda and mobilization of people in the community, introduce male and female couples to qualified service facilities according to regulations to provide counseling and health check-ups before marriage.
Along with the above important tasks, the National Action Month on Population is also an opportunity for the entire population sector to look back at the achievements, challenges and difficulties, and set out directions for the coming time.
This is also an opportunity to raise awareness and sense of responsibility for population work and development in the new situation.
Regarding population work in Nghe An, Ms. Hoang Thi Thom, Deputy Director of the Department of Population, Ministry of Health, said that although Nghe An is a bright spot in the population sector, with many unique characteristics, population work in Nghe An still has to carry out two "dual" tasks in parallel, which are both efforts to reduce births and efforts to improve population quality.
Nghe An needs to continue to advise and develop programs, plans and projects on population approved by the Provincial People's Committee to ensure sufficient resources to implement the local population goals and targets every year. The province also needs to promote the locality's initiative, creativity and overcoming difficulties, focusing on drastic and synchronous implementation of communication solutions and activities. In the immediate future, it is necessary to focus on the goal of reducing births and improving the quality of reproductive health care and family planning services.
