(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 11, under the chairmanship of comrade Le Minh Thong - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Steering Committee for Population and Family Planning held a meeting to listen to the report on the results of the implementation of the Provincial Population and Family Planning work in the first 6 months of the year and the tasks for the last 6 months of 2016.

In the first 6 months of 2016, the Steering Committee for Population and Family Planning has performed many important tasks well. In particular, it has promoted propaganda, mobilization and education with many innovative forms and contents. The family planning service system at all levels basically provides adequate and timely contraceptive means... Estimated results show that: the number of children born decreased by 1,361 compared to the same period, the rate of children having a third child decreased by 0.1%. The indicators of birth rate, sex ratio at birth, and the rate of couples applying contraceptive methods all met the targets compared to the set plan.

Comrade Le Thi Hoai Chung, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, Head of the Department of Population and Family Planning reported on the activities of the Population Steering Committee in the first 6 months of the year.

However, population work continues to face many difficulties and challenges such as large population size, high birth rate and third child birth rate. In addition, in the first 6 months of the year, the budget for the national target program on population and family planning has not been available, which has greatly affected the implementation of activities, especially at the grassroots level; the staff of specialized agencies at the provincial level is still small, so direction, inspection and supervision still face many difficulties.

Comrade Le Canh Nhac, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Population and Family Planning, analyzed the current challenges of Nghe An's population work. The most worrying issues are the high birth rate and high population aging rate.
