Hacker group hijacks 21,000 credit card accounts, illegally profits billions of dong
A high-tech crime group in Da Nang illegally collected more than 21,000 international credit card data to make purchases on Amazon, appropriating billions of dong.
On June 12, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention - Da Nang City Police announced that it had initiated a criminal case of "Illegal collection, storage, trading, and publicizing of information about bank accounts" by an organized crime gang.
The case file has been transferred to the Investigation Police Agency - City Police for further investigation and expansion.
This is the result of a peak period of fighting against high-tech crimes under the direction of the Prime Minister and the leaders of Da Nang City Police.
Previously, through the work of managing the area and grasping the situation of cyberspace, the Cyber Security Department coordinated with relevant units to discover an organized crime gang, led by subjects T.D.D (residing in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa) and NQK (residing in Thanh Khe District, Da Nang).

According to the initial investigation, the subjects rented 2 houses in Da Nang, equipped them with many high-tech devices and recruited 15 subjects with information technology qualifications, used many high-tech tricks, took advantage of security holes to create software tools to automatically collect international bank payment cards of foreigners to appropriate assets.
From November 2024 until its dismantling, this group used software to illegally collect information from more than 21,000 international credit card accounts (VISA, Mastercard, Discover) of foreigners. These cards were used to pay for thousands of orders on the Amazon e-commerce platform, thereby appropriating assets and illegally profiting billions of dong.
Searching two locations, authorities seized 15 cell phones, 2 laptops, 16 CPUs and 5 computer monitors.
The Cyber Security Department is currently in discussions with Amazon and Visa to fix security vulnerabilities.
