(Baonghean) - In Vinh City, there are many examples of people who always uphold self-awareness and seriousness in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style. They are like flowers quietly spreading their fragrance and offering nectar to life.

In the scorching heat of the summer days of June, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Nien - head of My Thanh block, Dong Vinh ward (Vinh city) led us on a tour around the block, introducing the works that demonstrate the people's strength and the unanimity of the local community.

Although he is over 70 years old and has been ill for many years, Mr. Nien is still devoted to the work of the hamlet every day, taking on four tasks at the same time: Block Leader, Head of the Pastoral Committee of Yen Due parish, People's Council delegate of Dong Vinh ward and member of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee.

In every collective work, Mr. Nien always keeps in mind the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh: "Unity, unity, great unity. Success, success, great success", and he considers this as the guiding principle to help the parish and the neighborhood develop and become more and more united.

According to Mr. Nien, the "secret" to winning people's hearts is very simple, just need the leader to be exemplary, pioneering, speak the truth and do the right thing.

For example, in 2014, realizing the practical needs of households in the block, Block Leader Nguyen Xuan Nien mobilized households to donate land to open roads, and his family took the lead in donating 40 square meters of land, thereby encouraging others to follow suit.

As a result, the road with a total value of about 300 million VND was formed from the contributions of many families, bringing a more spacious and fresh appearance to the residential area.

Or the time when people were mobilized to contribute to renovate, repair and tile the cultural house, the budget of 170 million VND was mobilized quickly, used in the right place, transparently, creating a common living space for the community, so people were very excited.

More recently, the Yen Due parish church project, which was granted a construction permit by the Provincial People's Committee, has mobilized contributions of up to 8 billion VND. "In many places, I see churches are often built only by contributions from Catholics.

But here, because the solidarity between Catholics and non-Catholics is focused on and cultivated, many families in the block, although not religious, still voluntarily support the religious projects of their neighbors, for example, Mr. Le Van Tuong's family and Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dung's family each donated 10 million VND,...

Catholics and non-Catholics living together in harmony, helping each other in daily activities, that is probably my greatest success since taking on the job in the neighborhood and parish.

In addition, with his high prestige, Mr. Nien also encouraged and motivated many individuals in the parish who have the capacity and responsibility to take up positions in the political system in the block and ward such as block leader, head of the association of the elderly, head of the association of farmers, head of residential groups, etc. to live a good life, practice religion, and contribute to the common development of the homeland.

Mr. Duong Minh Thung - Head of Hamlet 6, Hung Chinh Commune is also a person who always promotes the awareness of studying and following Ho Chi Minh's moral example and style in daily work.

In the new rural construction, Mr. Thung mobilized each household to contribute an average of 20 million VND to concretize 100% of hamlet roads and inter-village roads with a total length of 4.3km.

He also convinced many households to voluntarily donate land to build roads, including Mr. Duong Minh Cong's family donating 80 square meters, Mr. Thai Huu Tam's family donating 20 square meters...

Thanks to the leading role of Hamlet Chief Duong Minh Thung, Hamlet 6 has become the leading unit of the whole commune in the new rural construction movement, a model for other hamlets to learn and emulate. In 2015, when Hung Chinh commune completed the criteria and reached the new rural finish line, Mr. Thung was one of four local officials awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Provincial People's Committee for his tireless contributions to bringing a new look to his hometown.

He also called for the establishment of a fund to help those with serious illnesses and those who have lost large amounts of property, directly reaching out to each household and philanthropists to mobilize support and convey his kindness to the less fortunate in society.

He also applied the "friend helping friend" model locally since 2005, paying attention to early detection of young people suspected of being infected with HIV in the community, personally taking them for testing and getting medication.

Up to now, 16 HIV positive cases in the hamlet have controlled their condition and are healthy enough to work like normal people.

In particular, thanks to the encouragement and close supervision of the village chief Thung, they boldly reintegrated into the community, rebuilding their lives in an environment without discriminatory eyes but only the open arms of those around them.

Mr. Phan Dinh Hung - Party Cell Secretary of Hamlet 6, Hung Chinh Commune said: "Mr. Thung is the one who "breathes life" into the hamlet's movements, because more than anyone else, he is the one who has devoted a lot of effort, bringing our hamlet from a weak movement unit to a well-off hamlet and then achieving the cultural title from 2010 until now."

Another typical example in studying and following Uncle Ho is former youth volunteer Tran Thi Quy, residing in Trung Do ward. She always thinks about the lives that are still facing many difficulties. She shares, remembering Uncle Ho's teaching that "the whole leaves cover the torn leaves, the less torn leaves cover the more torn leaves", despite being busy every month, she still arranges her work, spends time on small but meaningful charity projects.

On Saturdays and Sundays, people often see this kind-hearted woman going everywhere to do charity work, sometimes personally scooping bowls of warm porridge for patients at the Provincial Oncology Hospital; sometimes asking about and taking care of children at the orphanage in Do Thanh commune, Yen Thanh; or giving gifts to relatives of martyrs at Dong Loc crossroads, helping veterans in difficult circumstances in Nam Dan...

Behind the actions of that former youth volunteer, the material things may not be much, but the spiritual value is extremely meaningful.

Mrs. Tran Thi Quy's way of thinking and doing is a source of encouragement for those around her to open their hearts more, follow her example to actively help the community, build a life attitude in the spirit of mutual love and support, and spread thousands of good deeds in society.

Not only taking care of business and loving charity work, Ms. Quy also actively participates in movements and activities of the Association of Former Youth Volunteers, local and block activities.

At the age of over 60, she still continues to contribute, and has been honored many times with noble titles, such as a national outstanding veteran, a former youth volunteer who set a good example following Uncle Ho's teachings, and was honored to be a delegate of Nghe An delegation to attend the National Patriotic Emulation Congress in 2015.
