New rural roads are full of flowers
(Baonghean.vn) - Carrying out the campaign "building a family of 5 no's, 3 clean's", Hoang Mai and Nghia Dan have seen the appearance of beautiful flower streets.
Coming to Quynh Vinh commune (Hoang Mai town) these days, the first impression is the flower-filled roads stretching from the main roads to every small alley. Ten o'clock flowers, eight o'clock flowers, purple pineapples... are competing to show off their colors, creating a fresh and vibrant environmental landscape. That is the result of the emulation movement of women planting flowers to protect the environment, with the motto "Add one flower, reduce one bag of trash" launched by the Women's Union of the commune.
The Commune Women's Union has stepped up propaganda and mobilized cadres, members, and women to participate in the implementation. Initially, the branch heads set an example by planting flowers in front of their houses, then mobilized the surrounding households. From the initial flower bushes, seeing that planting flowers was relatively easy and also beautified the village roads and alleys, the women actively responded and voluntarily participated; donating flower seeds, labor days to hoe the land, weed, plant, and care for them in the area and residential area where they lived.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue - Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Quynh Vinh commune said: "When the model was first implemented, there were many difficulties due to the low awareness of environmental sanitation among the people. The women were all busy with economic activities so they did not have time to plant and take care of flowers. Many people thought that planting flowers on the roadside was not practical because they were easily damaged, so they did not support it."

The flower roads have changed people's awareness of environmental sanitation. In places where flowers are planted, there is no longer littering like before. This is helping Quynh Vinh commune complete the environmental criteria in building new rural areas, striving to bring the commune to the finish line in 2018.
From the success of the flower growing model in Quynh Vinh commune, the Women's Union of Hoang Mai town has directed to replicate it in other communes and wards. To effectively implement the model, each branch has surveyed rural traffic routes, especially on sections with a lot of weeds and littering causing environmental pollution, to plant flowers.
Depending on the actual conditions, the grassroots branches choose suitable flower species, adaptable to the environment and weather so that they can bloom all year round. Up to now, 10/10 communes and wards have implemented this model.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Van - Vice President of the Women's Union of Hoang Mai town said: "The flower planting movement is one of the specific and practical activities responding to the campaign "building a family of 5 no 3 clean". Although it has only been implemented since 2016, it has brought about clear results so far.
In the coming time, the Association will continue to direct the grassroots associations to promote further, considering this as one of the criteria to evaluate the performance of the branches. Taking advantage of the free time, Saturdays and Sundays, women, regardless of age, join hands to go out to plant and take care of flowers. Not only planting on the roadside, women have planted flowers in cemetery grounds, village cultural houses, schools and public areas. The work of the women's association is strongly supported by authorities and people at all levels.

After nearly 2 months of implementation, the flower path has been planted and cared for by the women on both sides of the concrete road. At around 10am, the roadside flowers are blooming in full bloom.
Ms. Bui Thi Hong - Women's Union of Hamlet 10, Nghia Hung Commune proudly shared: "After the Women's Union of the commune launched the campaign and chose the hamlet as a pilot, I also thought it was very simple, just carrying out the task assigned by the superiors, but when the flowers bloom, everyone passing by finds it beautiful and seeing the flowers makes me feel more optimistic about life."
Flowers have the advantage of being easy to grow, just need to plant branches and grow very quickly, do not require much care, so in the process of implementation, they are supported by many women. Every Friday afternoon, women organize a general cleaning, weeding, and care for the flower path of their association. From the success of the model, the Women's Union of Nghia Hung commune is continuing to replicate it in 15/15 hamlets.
